if I had to choose a single interior design style that I can't live without, it will definitely be Spanish revival. Maybe it's my Balkans education and need to find known in a new environment, but my love affair with Spanish Revival started immediately when I first came to Los Angeles.

now if you are lucky enough to have one of these great houses, your decorating possibilities are endless. But if you have a ' regular ' House that happens to have exposed wooden beams, you are good in luck! Some strategic use of tiles, wrought iron items and general use of stucco can transform any such Interior in a timeless and welcoming home décor items from the Spanish revival. step one : textured Stucco white or natural walls

there is a lot of stucco application systems on the market these days. I'm partial to LimeStrong and Vasari. Another way to achieve the look on a budget is to use limewash paint. Paint is a very popular decorating tools in Europe and is slowly making its way to North America as well. I like the options offered by Sydnay Harbour paint called Interno Lime wash. A simple alternative is to use a structured background image that recreates the same effect:

step two: tiles
If you do structural remodeling , then install the #saltillo floor tiles is the way to go. But a note of caution, as wonderful as they look, you need to spring for a contractor who actually knows how it's done and seal it properly; otherwise you are in for a big disappointment.

if the remodeling budget does not allow it, another way to go is to the stain and score the concrete you already have. An old damaged concrete can be treated easily with a thin #microciment program (here for a post about it). When you have the coating surface and the color can be cut to the desired tile-like form.

step three: decorative wrought iron elements
wrought iron is perhaps the most prominent decorative feature of the style. I'm not a big fan of wrought iron furniture but sconces, chandeliers and curtain rods are a must if you want an authentic Spanish Revival look. If interior design budget is tight and you have to invest in a single item, I will definitely go for a wrought iron chandelier: it's an instant face lift to the House and gives an expensive look of a relatively modest price:

step four: wall paintings
this goes with, and is an extension of one and three above. White or off-white stucco walls and wrought iron lighting go hand in hand with your wall décor. A simple oil portrait with an ornate antique frame or a series of etchings with matching elegant frames are all you need to create an authentic Spanish Revival look. If you are not a collector, gives a trip to the local art school show student or a consignment shop you a budget-friendly option. A note of caution. stay away from modern prints of the "keep calm and ..." variety.

step 5: furniture
there are no rules when it comes to setting the decoration , it will need to have your own publishing company. Then chose what you like and feel right, but here are some guideposts:
color: Hold on Earth and subdued tones. They will stand out with the walls and will blend nicely with tiled floors.
the texture and pattern: distressed leather and velvet is a good place to start. The key is to avoid patterns of any kind. Monochrome or not, stay in your chosen palette.
three: dark wood furniture with a slightly rustic feeling.
